Born in Iwakuni, Yamaguchi Prefecture in 1958. Left in the care of his uncle shortly after birth, he learned Aiki self-defense from an early age. In high school, he met a Wado-ryu Karate teacher. After that, he continued to study martial arts and received a Karate instructor license and a Manaka-ryu Aiki self-defense instructor license. In 1993, he moved to the United States. He taught in South Carolina, Texas, Pennsylvania, Washington DC, and Ontario, Canada. In 2014, he returned to Japan. He lives in Tokyo and is an American citizen.
